Taber 9-1-1, a function of the Taber Police Service, is proud to announce that Text with 911 Service (T9-1-1) is now available to assist the deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or speech impaired (DHHSI) community.

This service is available for registered DHHSI users within the Town of Taber and the MD of Taber including Grassy Lake, Enchant, Hays, Vauxhall and Barnwell.

How Does it Work?

During an emergency, T9-1-1 provides registered 9-1-1 call centers with the ability to converse with a registered DHHSI mobile phone, through text messaging. Our Communications Operators are trained to identify a mobile call that is a registered T9-1-1 user and can switch to text-based communication during an emergency. This allows for a much quicker response time without third party assistance.

How can I Register?

In order to utilize this service, the mobile phone must first be active and registered with a wireless service provider and must be a compatible cell phone. It is important to remember that this service is for the DHHSI community and not available to the general public.
