A message from the Chief of Police, Dr. Graham Abela

Welcome to the Taber Police Service!

Taber is an awesome community! We have the benefit of being geographically situated in the heart of southern Alberta, having one of the best climates in Canada, and our hospitality is second to none. I am proud to call Taber my home.

We are the smallest municipal police service in Alberta, and have a long history serving Taber and providing public safety within our community. Since 1904 members of the Taber Police Service have answered the call to serve, and that is exactly what we continue do.

We strongly believe in our organizational values and our mission to inform, involve, and protect the citizens of Taber. Community policing is a philosophy that we espouse and we work hard to ensure that our “no call is too small” attitude prevails in all we do. We welcome our community to contact us by phone or to attend in person at our police station 24/7/365. Partnerships and relationships are important, and we will continue to work together for the benefit of Taber.

We have a low crime rate in our community, and our police service has a long standing record of having one of the highest solvability rates in the Province. We continually receive high satisfaction ratings from the public and have great support from the Taber Municipal Police Commission, Mayor and Council, and the community.

It has become apparent that policing in Canada has changed dramatically in the past twenty years. Police officers no longer simply respond to crimes, collect evidence and give testimony in court. Today, our Taber Police Service officers are community-minded problem solvers who apply critical thinking skills to the craft of policing. We continually adjust to the ever increasing policing pressures by remaining flexible in our approaches and being adaptable to our economic environment. All of our officers have a vested interest in our community since each one of them calls Taber their home.

I know that each and every day our police officers, communications operators, and staff do their best to keep our community safe. We are proud to do our part to ensure Taber is great place to live, and we are honoured to serve this community.

Graham Abela
